Melissa Deuel :: 

Melissa Deuel has enjoyed her return to the New Prague Figure skating coaching staff in 2023. Prior to teaching figure skating in New Prague, Melissa previously taught in Lakeville, Apple Valley, Forest Lake and Chisago Lakes. She has worked with skaters of all ages and levels for the past 26 years. In her last competition, Melissa Placed first in interpretive and second in program at Adult Nationals when her first born child was 7 months old. During the past 8 years, she has been involved with American Ice Theater and developed a passion to see skaters reach their full potential not only as athletes, but also as artists. 

Outside of figure skating, Melissa’s primary career is serving as a pastor in Castle Rock and with her husband at Crossroads Church of Elko New Market, where they have been residents since 2006. Her three children, Aurora, Benjamin and Tirzah attend New Prague area schools. She is also the president of a nonprofit ministry, called Yours Faithfully. Off the ice, Melissa loves to camp in the BWCA, snowboard, read and cheer on her children in their various activities. 

Watching each student discover their potential on the ice continues to be a highlight in teaching with the NPFS Club.

Morgan Brandt ::

Hi, I’m Morgan! I’ve had the privilege of coaching with the New Prague Area Figure Skating Club for the past several years, and it’s especially meaningful because this is the club where I grew up skating! I spent nine years as a skater with NPAFSC and earned my Senior Moves in the Field, now known as Gold Skating Skills. Some of my favorite childhood memories were made at the rink, and I feel incredibly lucky to now give back to the club that helped shape my love for the sport.

I love helping skaters build confidence, develop strong fundamentals, and discover the joy that comes from being on the ice. One of my favorite parts of coaching is creating choreography that lets each skater’s unique personality shine. Watching skaters grow in both their skills and self-confidence is the most rewarding part of coaching for me.

Outside of the rink, I work full time as a home health physical therapist. I earned both my Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Science and my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from St. Catherine University. Every day, I have the privilege of being welcomed into people’s homes and give them the tools and resources to safely age in place. My background in physical therapy has given me a deep appreciation for movement, balance, and lifelong learning, all of which influence the way I coach.

When I’m not coaching or working, I enjoy reading, running, and practicing Pilates. I look forward to helping every skater feel supported, challenged, and excited to achieve their goals - all while finding joy out on the ice! 

I am not currently accepting new students for the 2026-2027 season; however, I can’t wait to be involved with all your skaters for the winter exhibition and spring show!
